  Buyer beware. With the exception of a pleasant initial phone conversation and the use of a serviceable rental truck, our experience with this company was abysmal. When all was said and done, we felt cheated.
  
  We arranged, by phone, to rent a U-haul to move some outdoor furniture from Surf City to Sneads Ferry. We arrived at Carolina Coastal and filled out our paperwork. As we got into the truck, we immediately noticed the mileage in the vehicle did not match the mileage noted on our rental agreement. Ten miles had been added to the latter. We walked back to the office, notified the owner, and he made the correction. When we returned from our trip, we were told there would be an additional charge for using a credit card. When I had called to reserve, I had specifically asked if a credit card could be used and--at no time during that call nor when we were in the office, completing our paperwork--were we informed there would be such a surcharge. We would have come with cash had we been alerted in advance. We were told, when we returned the truck, that there would be a substantial additional charge for not returning the vehicle full of gas. We have rented trucks and cars on other occasions and were not surprised by this. What did surprise us was that, though our round trip totaled just 35 miles, we needed to put in five gallons to bring the indicator up to full. The truck served its purpose and got our furniture where it needed to go, but we will never again use the services of this company and we would recommend you also look elsewhere when in need of a rental.
